Abstract:

A fast technique for deconvolution of signals in a multipath propagation environment using optimal inverse filters is compared against broadside beamforming and time reversal. A strategy for optimising the inverse filters is discussed. A shallow water test facility is used as the basis for evaluating the various focusing strategies for single and multiple receivers. A fast field model (OASES) of the facility is used to evaluate the technique numerically. Finally, simulations using real data collected from a scaled model underwater test tank are conducted to confirm that the technique is suitable for real systems.
