Project Title: Application of neural networks to active noise and vibration control

Colin H. Hansen, Marc T. Simpson and Ben S. Cazzolato

Genetic algorithms may be applied to active sound control systems in two quite different ways. First, they may be used to optimise the locations of the control sources. Second, they may be used to adapt the weights of the digital filters that generate the signals to drive the control sources that cancel the unwanted sound. Both of these applications are discussed in detail here. Previous work and limitations of genetic algorithms as well as their advantages in certain applications will be discussed.
