Does active noise control have a future?

Does active noise control have a future?

Abstract:

Research activities in active noise control (ANC) continue to expand with new developments being reported in scientific journals on a regular basis. Although there are a number of commercial applications that have been implemented successfully, the widespread application of ANC technology remains elusive and one is left wondering whether ANC is ever going to be a truly practical noise control tool. In this paper, recent developments in ANC technology are reviewed and the technical problems still standing in the way of widespread application are discussed. Progress made in solving some of the problems is summarized, current international research directions are outlined and the future of the discipline is examined. In addition, some of the research currently being undertaken at The University of Adelaide is highlighted.
