Project Title: Active Exhaust Silencer

Carl Howard, Damien Leclercq, Morgan Hunter

The project involves the development of an active exhaust silencer for a large diesel engine to reduce tonal noise at the cylinder firing frequency and harmonics.

The active exhaust silencer is required to operate in exhaust gas temperatures of up to 500C and parts are exposed to diesel particulates and water. Hence conventional loudspeaker active control technologies will not work.
